Who we are

Core team of the AcReDe:

Prof. Koulaidis is professor emeritus at University of Peloponnese. He has extensive academic and research experience in the field of education policy and he has led 20 research projects while participating in many others, the majority of which concern development and evaluation of educational policies. His publication record includes: eleven (11) books in Greek and one (1) book in English, over one hundred (100) articles in international peer reviewed journals (Science Education, International Journal of Science Education, Research in Science Education, Public Understanding of Science, Science Communication, International Journal of Learning, Mediterranean Journal of Educational Studies), twenty (20) book chapters (ten in English and ten in Greek) and numerous papers in international conferences proceedings and Greek journals.

He has held a variety of academic and political posts in European and National Organisations/Committees. These posts include:

  • Member of the Board of Participating Countries PISA/OECD (Dec. 2000-June 2004).
  • Representative of Greece in the Education Committee of OECD (Dec. 2000-June 2004).
  • President of the group for organizing the Greek Presidency (Education) of E.U. (2002-2003).
  • Vice-President of the National Research Center for Education (Oct. 2000- Nov. 2004).
  • Representative of Greece in the Education Committee of E.U. (Dec. 2000-March 2004).
  • Head of committee for the evaluation of research units for higher education in Portugal (Apr. 2006 - July 2012).
  • Member of the National Council for Social Sciences and Humanities of Portugal (since June 2009).

Dimitris Petakos was born in 1981 and he has a PhD in History of Science from the “History and Philosophy of Science” Department of the University of Athens. He studied History and Philosophy of Science (BA and MA) at the University of Athens. He also studied in the “Communication, Media, and Culture” Department of Panteion University (BA). He is the scriptwriter and narrator of three History of Science documentaries: “Copernicus, Brahe, Kepler: Tree great Astronomers” (2011), the award-winning “Galileo: Fighting in the Dawn of Modern Science” (2013) and the award-winning “Newton: The Force of God” (2016). Since the September of 2016, he is one of the chief editors of the journal “PRISMA”, which is published with the newspaper “Avgi”. He is also a researcher in the European project “SciFun: Making Learning Science Fun”, concerning education and construction of Public Image of Science. At this year he begins a partnership with the “Herakleidon Museum”, where he will implement educational programs in History of Science. From the September of 2015 to the June of 2017 he implemented educational programs, concerning the History of Science and Science, at “Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation”. From the February of 2010 to the November of 2016, he was working at “Eugenides Foundation” where he was designing and implementing educational programs based on the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, Science Communication and Public Understanding of Science and Technology. In the past he was a columnist for “Science Illustrated” magazine and a Radio producer in the show “What's Up Doc?”, aiming at informing the public about the latest developments in Science and Technology.

He has taught one lesson of History of Science in the MA of the “History and Philosophy of Science” Department (2016-2017) and one lesson in the BA of the same Department (2012-2013). During this semester (2017-2018), he will teach one more lesson in the MA. He is, also, an active researcher in History of Science and he has participated in ten conferences so far. He has published one paper in the “Contributions to the History of Concepts” magazine (2017), one paper in a collective volume (2013), and one bibliographical guide in the Greek translation of I.B. Cohen’s book “The Birth of a New Physics” by the Crete University Press (2017).

Lida Arnellou has a PhD in Science Communication, from the Department of Social and Educational Policy, University of Peloponnese. She is specializing in Science Communication namely the development of educational material, educational programs, interactive exhibitions and educational audiovisual content (videos, documentaries) aiming to communicate Science and Technology to students and the general public. She was the production manager and scriptwriter of three History of Science documentaries, two of which have been awarded in international festivals. She is a Research Fellow in projects concerning education, analysis of educational material and Science as it is communicated through informal education (ex. Museums) and the Media. For the past two years she is a researcher in the European project “SciFUN: Making Learning Science Fun”, aiming to create tools that will help educators in making science teaching more fun and engaging for students. Since 2007 she is the coordinator of the Interactive Exhibition of Science and Technology at Eugenides Foundation. Since 2012 she is also working as a science journalist.

Eleni Tsarna holds an Academic Diploma in Education and a Master of Arts from the Institute of Education, University of London. She has held a variety of posts in the field of English Literature and she has participated in many research national and European research projects. She has published many research papers in national and international reputed journals and she is a member of the British Psychological Society.
